How to Clean Your Makeup Brushes

November 16, 2015

Makeup brushes can be costly so its essential to take care of your investment and make them last.  Also my lovelies your brushes can buildup dead skin, oil and bacteria! Ewwww pretty gross! This buildup can cause acne and skin irritations.

Its suggested that your brushes be cleaned at least twice a week, but those with oilier complexions may need to clean them weekly. I’m super guilty of not cleaning my brushes on a regular basis and I’ve set up a bi-weekly reminder on my phone calendar. So far this trick has worked for me.

There are many great brush cleaners on the market but you can simply use Johnsons baby soap and warm water. I place a small amount of soap in the palm of my hand and swirl brush in soap. I than wet brush a bit with warm water and clean brush. Be gentle while cleansing them and avoid getting water on the barrel portion as sometimes brushes can become unglued. Make sure you rinse brushes thoroughly and carefully squeeze any excess water.  Next lay them down flat on a towel; Do not stand your brushes to dry as water can settle in barrel and cause rust. I like to let them dry for at least 8 hours or overnight.

Voila! The next day your brushes are like new and super soft.
