ABC’s Of Finding Your New Signature Fragrance

ABC's Of Finding Your Signature Fragrance

A signature scent can have a lasting effect on how people remember you and is an integral part of your personal style. Shopping for the perfect scent can be overwhelming as you sniff from fragrance to fragrance. So many scents, so little time to sniff! I’ve been going through some personal changes and new beginnings and thought this was a perfect time for a fragrance over haul. So my friends I’ve decided to share what I’ve learned and take you along on my new fragrance adventure.

First I always wondered what the heck is Eau de Toilette?

  • Perfume-is long lasting and is usually comprised of 40% perfume essence
  • Eau de Perfume – usually lasts well as it contains 10% – 20% perfume essence
  • Eau de Toilette-lasts a few hours at most as it contains 4%-15% perfume essence
  • Eau de Colonge-doesn’t last long at all as it usually contains 6% perfume essence

Secondly there are a gazillion types of scents ranging from floral to spicy notes! So the next step is deciding what type you’re interested in. Personally I prefer more masculine scents that are earthy and woody, which helps narrow down my choices. My favorite place to shop for fragrance is Sephora, I can easily spend a couple of hours sniffing and testing scents.

You need to try scents on your skin and let them dry down for at least an hour to truly assess if you really love it and if the fragrance loves you. I have two ways of doing this without spending an arm and a leg. Sephora has wonderful fragrance samplers that allow you to test multiple scents at a time. For instance, I couldn’t decide on a Commodity fragrance so I purchased the sampler and discovered that I really love the Mimosa and Whiskey scents blended together. The second way I try a fragrance is to ask the wonderful girls at Sephora for a sample. I tried at least 10 different samples and finally after three weeks of research settled down on my new signature scent. Drumroll please…..

Atelier Cologne Cedre Atlas! I’m so in love with my new scent and its cute leather case.

ABC's Of Selecting Your Signature Fragrance

In the end you want to take your time selecting your signature fragrance, since it is what everyone will remember you by. What new scents are you currently loving? What type of fragrance’s are you most attracted to? Please share your thoughts.

Interesting topic. My favorite fragrance for the past 3 years has been Mademoiselle Piquet by Robert Piquet. During the summer months I love her by Narcisco Rodriguez. I’m enjoying your blog.

My favs right now and have been for a long time are Tom ford black orchid, Viktor & Rolf Flowber Bomb and Michael Kors by Michael Kors. I love this post!!! I always have a hard time finding the right scent for me as they tend to get too sweet on my skin and it ends up driving me nuts. I never knew what the difference was between the eaus either! Thanks for sharing this! ~Anna http://www.pepperedinstyle.com
