I’m fascinated by the cool female movement of the girl squad. To be honest it didn’t hit my radar until Taylor Swift and her “girl gang” became a trending topic. I remember watching the Bad Blood video and thinking wow these girls are tough, successful and gorgeous. As women we are usually categorized as being catty with one another and competitive, but this new movement is the anti thesis of catty!
Your girl squad consists of a group of women empowering and building each other up. They support each other and lift each other up. They’re kind of a part of your extended family that always has your back! The gang is ambitious with goals and they work together to promote and market each other. I myself have met many women thru my endeavor of blogging and I must say I’ve never met such loving and encouraging women.
If you think about it The Golden Girls were the original girl squad. The whole premise of the show was a group of women learning to support each other thru career movements, family issues and their romantic lives. Hence the first #girlsquad !
Current trending celebrity girl squads:
- Taylor Swift and her bad blood crew: Karlie Kloss, Martha Hunt, Lily Aldridge, Gigi Hadid, Cara Delevingne.
- Miranda Lambert with her girls Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler, and Ashley Monroe
- Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Schumer
Then there are squad goals: an aspirational term for what you’d like your group of friends to accomplish. Instagram has been flooded with the hashtag squad goals. Everyone from celebrities, athlete’s, and Burger King posting their goals:
Now to follow all the hashtag mayhem, Ryan Seacrest is producing a new sitcom for CBS called Squad Goals. It will be a comedy about a group of college friends in their 20’s. No word yet if it will be picked up but it will be interesting to see a comedic take on the squad trend.
If I had to pick a group of women for my girl squad I would choose Kelly Ripa, Sophia Amoruso and Diane Von Furstenberg. Who would you pick? I would love to hear your thoughts, please share below in comment section.
